How Did You Get Into Working with Colored Pencils?

Colored pencils are one of those mediums kids are introduced to at a young age so I feel like I’ve been dabbling in them my whole life. Though when I was in high school, I pretty much put down my paintbrush for good and worked entirely in colored pencil. My body of colored pencil work expanded and blossomed and by the end of art school undergraduate, I had a wildly successful senior thesis exhibition. The show was sold out. At that point, I quit all my day jobs, ditched work uniforms, and surrounded myself with bucket loads of colored pencils working on commission and showing my work in galleries.

When Did You Begin Making Cut Paper Art?

I got serious about making work out of cut paper June of 2020. When I was 4, I would make slippers for my mom out of tissues as well as tissue high heels elevated by rolls of cardboard from the inside of a paper towel roll.

Do You Have a Studio Assistant?

I do not have anyone assisting me. All artworks are colored, cut, assembled, packaged, and shipped by me.

What Are Your Pieces Used For?

I work in a freelance style taking commissions for colored pencil and cut paper art year round. Depending on the client need and the size of a piece, my pieces often become home décor, restaurant interior décor, custom gifts, bespoke portraits, and most recently children’s book illustrations! Additionally, I exhibit my work in galleries and participate in pop-up shows. I create artworks for a variety of reasons but the number one drive is my sheer love of creating things.

Do you ever combine colored pencil and cut paper techniques in a piece?

This answer is somewhat two-fold. I do not use any collage elements in my colored pencil drawings. But when working in paper, I like to draw the tiniest and finest details on the paper using colored pencils and/or paint.

How long does my custom commissioned artwork take to complete?

This depends largely on the Artist’s schedule at the time of your order and how large your commissioned piece is. Typically, smaller pieces take around 2-5 weeks to complete while larger pieces could take upwards of 12-16 weeks to complete. Please note these are ballpark figures and each project timeline is determined on a case-by-case basis between the Artist and the Client.

Can I commission a piece similar to a past work or a piece I’ve seen on your Instagram?

Yes, this is a common commission request and something Zoe’s happy to get started on for you! Head over to the Custom Commission Page and fill out the Custom Commission Form. At the bottom of the Form you’ll see there is a field for uploading images - simply add the image(s) you have in mind, click submit, and we’ll be in touch within a few business days.
